Dumb question, but here goes.

I've done my previous tests (aside from the OSCE) in Canada, not in an "official" prometric centres. I'm heading to the States to write Step III Tuesday, and am wondering whether they'll let me escape in the middle to go for lunch. Do I need to bring a lunch and eat it on the premises, or can I take off for 45 minutes or so?

at the centers I have been at they didn't monitor what you did during break once you left their area but I don't know if they are all the same. I didn't drive anywhere just because I get a high level of paranoia that something might make me late but I could have.

It's your break time. You can do whatever you want once you sign out - Leave the center, bring your lunch what ever u want to do.

i think every center has a fridge, you can bring food and leave it there. there were places to eat around the sites i'vebeen but i was worried about being stuck in line and using up too much time so i brought my own sandwich and thermos.

You have 45 mins of break time which you can use throughout your whole test. I needed to take a break after each block because i had to. So i really had 10-15mins for lunch. I scarfed my food down and went back to the exam. If you dont use any break time, i envy you since that test is tiring!

Interesting writing a test in the US vs Canada - biometric identification, screening for weapons (! really?). No idea how this went - slept only 2 hours the night before cause of some wicked insomnia...... At one point I was going to go and sleep in my car for an hour as I'd built up 90 min of break time. Probably was best to just power through. All I can do now is pray and hope for the best I guess. And kick ass tomorrow.

I assumed the metal detector was more for prohibited electronics than weapons. Hope it went well today.
