Some of my favorite pre-med threads were:
Funny quotes from "less informed" premeds

Worst Interview Answers!!!

In the spirit of continuing the tradition here in the medical student forums, I'd like to start a thread with the most cringe-worthy things you've heard (or said yourself) in TBL/PBL. Whether it's someone spouting off obviously wrong information or making ridiculous non-medical statements, I want to compile the most ridiculous things said in small groups sessions.

In one of our biostats small group sessions, someone took issue with a question that assumed the subjects were male...the question was regarding prostate cancer.

Ha! Reminds me of the lecture we had who said we had to be comfortable asking patients who present as female if they’ve had a prostate exam… well that’s what he meant to say, what he actually said was “You have to ask all of your patients if they’ve had a prostate exam” thankfully I restrained myself with the next SP I had… but it was close.

We were discussing the ACA/repeal in a small group and the leader said "and with the new legislation we will be taking healthcare aware from millions of people"

I did a sarcastic thumbs up to my friend across the table, and the group leader (who happened to be our dean of students) proceeded to stop the discussion, bring me up in front of the whole group, and publicly crucify me for being "heartless person". It was an eternity to get a line in and say I was being sarcastic...

Gotta be more subtle bro

Someone wanted to give Estrogen therapy to a pt with BRAC1 mutation and did not see the problem with it when brought up.
We give combination OCP's (at a dose many times higher than estrogen therapy) to women with BRCA1 when they need contraception and a significant number recommend it for ovarian CA protection whether they need it for contraception or not. There are well-designed case control studies that show a protective effect for OCP's against Breast CA in BRCA1 carriers and for both BRCA 1 and 2 for ovarian CA.

Women with known genetic mutations can also reasonably make an informed decision to take estrogen therapy. In fact, when ovaries are removed before the usual age of menopause in BRCA carriers we recommend estrogen replacement.

Pt had breast cancer in case. Was not combination-HRT, it was just estrogen. But damn, I learned something new!

This is actually a complicated question that hits at the very heart of what we know, what we don't know and how much the patient gets to contribute to her own care plan.

Student goes off about evolution and how she couldn't believe one of our attendings doesn't believe in it, but in the same sentence says maybe it's because he's an Capricorn or something.

If she were being sarcastic, she wins

Not pbl/tbl but in anatomy lab. We had an open lab session before a practical and one of my buddies was joking around about how he found the Crypts of Lieberkuhn on his cadaver and pretended to point them out to us. One guy in our lab took it seriously and proceeded to ask other people if they wanted to see the crypts. I think he asked at least 7 or 8 people before he realized he got trolled irl.
