Just how useful is reading medium Robbins for Step and 3rd year clerkships? I already have RR Path which I love and I just wonder how much reading Robbins actually helps in the long run. If it doesn't then Imma cut my losses and focus on more step 1 resources and class notes. Please chime in if you have thoughts and thanks

I had both medium and big Robbins, but ended up selling the medium Robbins and kept big Robbins for reference only. If you want to spend the time reading it from cover to cover for Step 1, then that's your call. My personal opinion is that your time would be better spent focusing on your other core Step 1 resources.

Agreed with @Mr. Mojo Risin, I'd rather use other resources for Step 1 purposes such as pathoma and your RR path book.

less is more.

If I had to prep for Step 1 all over again, I'd watch pathoma as much as possible.

Robbins is worthless for Step 1. Robbins is less than worthless for rotations unless you are on a path rotation.

What makes pathoma such a good resource for step I prep?

Pathoma is integrated, concise and fosters understanding. All other books are just a collection of facts. For example, his paradigm on anemias will make any CBC lab result make sense. If you just sat and memorized Robbins, you would miss the forest for the trees.

Thanks for the explanation!

I keep hearing that using First Aid, UWorld, and Pathoma is essential for USMLE prep. Is there any other resources that you find really good for prep?

I think those are all excellent sources and will get you as far as you want to go for Step 1. I personally liked RR Pathology as well.
