Anyone got interviews or ACCEPTANCE???????????????😎

Yes, I have an interview tomorrow and have already been accepted to VCU. 🙂

Best of Luck.

Yeah. I interviewed on the 14th of February, and they said we have to wait 2-3 weeks for notification. I wouldn't worry though, because they also said they were going to interview in March and April.

did u get accepted yet ndog263 and ssl????

yea i just got the acceptance letter on friday..but im not sure if i want to go there. i got accepted at mcphs-worcester and am pretty young (21) and feel like everyone in the program will be older than me. though i like that i would have the oppurtunity to work during the week and get more exposure in a pharmacy enviornment, im not sure i like having classes only 2 days a week. what do any of u accepted students feel?

I received my acceptance last week and following the interview I had a good understanding that the program was not organized or has a clear idea for its future. I was VERY dissapointed that there was no one-on-one interview to give each applicant a chance to personally express their desires for a professional pharmacy education. But alas there was still enough (despite the lack there of an indepth application compared to PharmCAS) to make an admissions decision on me.

I am in my mid-20s and starting a PharmD program in the fall. Mostly all other schools including those ranked higher than Duq have a majority of their students that work while completing a traditional program. Even the traditional program Duq students work during the week and weekends! Working while in school gives one an opportunity to build upon their knowledge. If I were eligible for the traditional program (shame on me for having a Bachelor's degree, I know right), I would have considered Duq more.

In addition, after comparing tuition rates, I found Duq at one year less to still be $10,000 more overall than the other schools I am entertaining offers from. That $10,000 I can easily make working while attending a 4 year program.

But hey --- everyone has their own needs for education, however Duq was not the one for me. For me, I wanted a bigger name, larger class, distint affiliation with a major hospital center, goal setting for growth in pharamacy trends, and possible exposure to research.

Hey there, I received my acceptance as well and will be attending the weekend program. My thoughts are:

1) The program isn't for everyone. 2 1/2 years of weekends year-round till rotation time takes committment to that lifestyle. It's pretty safe to say you won't be partying too much Friday and Saturday nights. It also leaves plenty of time during the week to obtain exposure to various pharmacy careers.

2) The weekend program is part of the overall Mylan School of Pharmacy which has been around for many years and has a proven track record of producing graduates that pass licensing exams (just like a majority of other pharmacy programs). The school is fully accredited and just recently passed a routine review.

3) Given the previous point, the actual weekend program just started a few years ago and I remember being told during the luncheon that everyone in the initial class passed licensing exams except 2. Of those two, one was getting ready to retake the exam and the school felt they would pass. The other one, didn't look to good. It was refreshing to get no frills data from them.

4) Smaller class size for me equates to more personalized attention and a better relationship with instructors/dean for when it comes time to request letters of recommendation. I think they were capping enrollment around 35 students.

5) Cost. It is a private university and I roughly calculated the tuition of the entire program to be around $115,000. This is expensive to me, but hey, they provide students free lunch on Saturdays and Sundays

6) I have mixed thoughts on school recognition as I've seen a plethora of pharmacy school rankings based on all sorts of criteria. My opinion is simply visit the school, make sure you're happy with the location, the program, and the people as you will be stuck with them for the next 3-4 years. Happiness with the setting of your education can definitely help you meet your goals.

As a side note, If anyone is interested in sharing an apartment or letting me crash each weekend (for money of course), send me a private message. I plan on being in the Pitt area maybe 2 or 3 days out of seven each week.

Can any one give more info about this program? I have no idea about this program until I read this thread. So you only have to go to school on weekends?

In short, the program is designed for someone who already has a bachelor degree (any type of bachelor degree) or will have a bachelor degree prior to matriculating into the program. Besides the degree requirement, they have the usual pre-reqs of 1 year of gen chem, 1 year organic chem, etc and they require your PCAT score. Other then that, it's year round so you have classes spring, summer, and fall. Total length of the program is 3 years and 4 months I believe.

Other points:
* Class times are generally 9-5 Sat & Sun.
* All weekend lectures are taped and placed online for your convenience to review during the week.
*They provide free lunch.
*Rotations (your last 4 months or so) are NOT weekends only.
*Class set-up is a block like program similar to mercer I believe. Meaning you focus on say medicinal chemistry for "x" number of weeks and then move on to the next topic.
*If you are not from the local area, they will try to work with you to fulfill your rotation requirements closer to home.

That's it in a nutshell, google "weekend doctor of pharmacy program" and it should come up. I graduated with a business degree, fullfilled pre-reqs for pharmacy at my local college and applied to their program as it gave me free time during the week to review/study at my own pace.

I was given acceptance after being waitlisted:soexcited:

anyone else going? taking the summer biochem/a&p/micro?

I HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED TOO....just got the call today:soexcited::banana::boom:😆
