Hi, justavet here. I recently started the NY TImes article thread about David Segal's article laying out the current state of veterinary debt, compensation and employment; that article quoted me several times and used my numbers in a number of places. One of the alarming number trends in that article was that so few DVM graduates have jobs at graduation now, and so many have not real jobs, but internships.
I'd like to ask for your help in publicizing this survey about veterinary employment
It is designed as a supplement to the employment data recently released by the AAVMC. We need to start gathering data about job quality, and we need to collect data from a more complete sample by including vets from all schools- not just US schools- and all graduation years. Understandably, no single school or association will be able to devote the time and money to performing such a broad survey that crosses all the typical dividing lines- but we're going to have to cross those lines and pool ourselves together to get the pieces put together, to pull the big picture into focus.
So if you all could take this survey, and then help take it viral, it would be a big step toward that goal of having better data on which to base decisions about the future of the veterinary profession.
Thanks, and please email me at [email protected] if you have questions or observations you don't want addressed here.
