But again, in Texas, it appears to me that the BAC isn't the end-all be-all. Whether or not that's fair...
It's not just Texas...

I am not a lawyer but I know of at least two other states (Oregon and Washington) for certain that allow citation for DUI at the officer's discretion if the driver fails field sobriety tests or otherwise leads the officer to suspect the driver is intoxicated. I suspect this is actually relatively common nationwide. The legal limit is where a police officer is obliged to charge a person with DUI.

A DWI can affect medical licensing, which is a reason for a school to rescind your acceptance. I know people who had school-related drinking offenses that were asked during interviews whether or not it was on a public record for this reason. No reason for a school to train someone who will have trouble getting licensed. I have no idea whether or not this pertains to you, so ask a lawyer.

I hope they do revoke your acceptances. If you drank enough to get a DWI, you shouldn't have been driving. I don't care about your life, but all those lives that were at risk with you on the road. Ask the people who have lost friends and family because some idiot decided it would be okay to drive impaired. I strongly believe that people who drink and drive should get very harsh punishments, and if it were up to me, I'd revoke your acceptance.

It is perfectly safe to drive after drinking if you are of age and under the legal limit, which after 2 drinks, I'm sure he was.

Did you know that you are statistically less likely do die driving after drinking than you are walking home after drinking? random, but true.

I think a more relevant statistic would be how much more likely you would be to cause another person's death driving after drinking than walking home after drinking.

Have the lawyer delay your court date until after your Med Skule matriculation date.

You will be innocent until proven guilty until that time.

Probably no need to notify the school until the court results are in unless you had the charges in place when you filled out the AMCAS forms.

And have the lawyer try to plead you to a lesser charge.

PS. Now that you have had a scare, lay off the alcohol and drugs for life!!

👍 Drinking and driving is not taken seriously enough in this country. And I don't believe for 1 minute that OP had "2 beers". Not that it matters--but somebody in my family has been killed by a drunk driver. Just because nobody was hurt does not make it any less of a crime to drive drunk.

Neither you or I know it was two drinks of what. I'm just saying: IF the OP was OVER the limit, AND was driving, THEN (my opinion is) that it is perfectly justifiable for any medical school to revoke an acceptance. In fact, I would encourage it.

However, if the OP was not over the limit (and still got a DWI), then I take my statement back.

And for people attacking me for suggesting this. I don't care what you say. Clearly, most of you have not lost a loved one due to the idiots who drink and drive. Imagine someone you love the most being killed by a drunk driver. Please let's not justify driving while intoxicated.

If this were true, most residents would probably get one.

👍 Which is really sad if you think about it. There has been studies which examine the effects of sleep deprivation on residents and they have found that many residents have gotten into car accidents due to lack of sleep. If I can find the study I looked at last year, i'll post it.

I'm taking a mysteries of sleep and dreaming class right now and sleep deprivation has the same effects on individuals as alcohol intoxication.

My car was totalled by a drunk driver...

...who had a warrant out for his arrest for failing to appear in court...

...for drunk driving. 🙄

Having said that [channelling Larry David], get advice from a lawyer and (obviously) never do it again.
