Hey current students & people who know more than me...

Any idea on an E-reader like Kindle, Ipad or Nook for PT school? I know I wont want all my books on one (I like to highlight, write notes etc) but if the weight of my bag & expense of books could be eased I would love to know.

So, do you guys know if our books are even available in these formats? If so, only on certain ones (Amazon/Apple but not B&N?) Any thoughts would be great!!

I have an ipad (typing on it currently), but most e-readers do not offer textbooks unfortunately. Nookstudy by b&n is the closest you will get as they offer online texts but they dont allow you to read the books on an e-reader, just online on a regular computer-so what's the point, right?

All the being said, for the ipad they have an app called coursesmart that offers e-texts, but it needs a lot of improvement before I woukd even consider using it. For example, you rent the book for a year but you never own it. I'm waiting until they change that policy. But they do have a good selection of texts to choose from. You could also always look for torrent downloads if you wanted to but its illegal so....yea.

I do use my ipad to take notes in all of my classes currently as well as as an organizer and it saves me a lot of room in my backpack. I don't think I've used a single piece of paper this semester. I also dont have to lug around my laptop when I need to use the internet or write papers. So it works for me even if I can't read texts on it.

Just my two cents! hope it helps!

I've found that I've only needed a handful of textbooks thus far, and I'm in my last semester of classes. I also can't really recall ever needing to carry them to campus with me, the only exceptions being lab guides which are paperback and pretty light. All of our handouts are provided by the faculty for each class, so there is no reason to carry more than that.

I realize that didn't actually directly answer the question, but I would suggest talking to some current students at the specific school you are headed to. They should be able to tell you more specifically if you'll need many books and if there would even be a need to carry them with you.

That being said- there are some pretty cool apps out there for the Ipad that could be helpful for anything from studying anatomy to developing treatment plans.
