Your OAT is excellent, you'll get into many schools. OAT matters the most, I'd estimate around 50%. 40% is GPA and 10% extracurriculars. I was in a similar situation as you. Low GPA high OAT. I got into SUNY in October. If you are applying now it might be a little harder but I'll tell you both of your stats are better than mine so you'll stand a good chance.

Which schools still accept applications for fall 2011?

The main one im looking at right now is Nova but ive also applied to midwestern, ohio, alabama, incarnate, pen, and western u.

What do you recommend as top optometry schools ?

All the schools that are fully accredited are good. It really depends on your specific situation and then you have to decide which school is a top optometry school for YOU.

Take a look at these statistics to make an informed decision:

I just went to the one that was least expensive tuition-wise and in commuting distance to where I live. Nova is advantageous if you want to push yourself. You take classes with osteopathic students, you get to practice in a no state income tax state if you decide to stay in Florida, they have newer equipment because they are a relatively new school, and warm weather if that is what you seek. Every school has its positives and negatives. I can tell you about specific schools if you wish.

I hate to be a butthole, but are you serious? Why post this thread? It's as if you're begging for compliments

hey, im sorry it was not my intention to offend anyone or to fish any compliments. I just wanted to reaffirm what is considered competitive in this field. Because I am in the stage of applying presently, please excuse me if im just being overcautious due to anxiety. I really am not fishing for compliments, I am proud of my OAT scores, im just not certain if my gpa baring is a deal breaker as some of the stats clearly show that I am quite under their average. I am flattered by your comment however and I thank you

If he/she said:

Hey guys how competitive am I?
3.68 GPA
370 AA/TS OAT

lol then that would be fishing

He's extremely competitive if he's applying for the 2012 cycle. He'll get scooped up, because his gpa isn't even low, its the average entry for most schools.

Wow thanks... I am applying now though with NOVA as my first choice... but if i dont get in...(which im not even going to say out loud cause i need the confidence) Ill take your words in mind. Of course I have to do something to make myself a better applicant such that it doesnt seem like i lounged around during 2011

NOVA offered me an interview (although I didn't go) and my GPA is 0.3 less than yours and my OAT is 350/360 not to mention I applied in February. They'll grab at you if you apply this coming July.

I'd say you're probably a shoe in with OAT scores like that! Your GPA is probably average. Actually, slightly above the average for some schools. You'll have no problem. Though a lot of schools will have accepted most of their students by now. You would have definitely been accepted and maybe offered a scholarship or something had you applied earlier in the cycle. Best of luck!
