So I made Eagle Scout in 2009 but I would like to include this in my app. I'm currently an assistant scout master for my troop and I would like to know where I could put it? I figure me still participating in scouts will in an EC but where could my Eagle award fit in? Also is it a good idea to put it down? My H.S guidance councilor said that it would be a risk putting it on my app when I was applying to college because apparently a lot of admissions officers are liberals and liberals don't like Boy Scouts.

Eagle Scout = Awards, Honors, Scholarships
Scout Master = Extracurricular, Volunteer, Community Service

I'd put that on my apps. I did. Whether they like boy scouts or not, it shows you were able to commit to something growing up and learned to do a lot of good things. I put it on mine. Never came up as good or bad. Good luck!

Eagle master scout= acceptance

I did put my Eagle Scout award and very briefly described my project.

Whoever tells you not to put Eagle Scout on the application is most likely someone who failed to make it to Eagle.

Also, don't trust the posts saying putting Eagle will hurt your application because the adcoms are liberal, non-religious, etc.

Its truly an honor to get this award whether or not it was before college (Eagle cuttoff was 18 years old at my time) and it is something you should put on every application in the future.

Completing an Eagle Scout project, earning the award, and still being an active Scouter will tell an admissions committee that you were able to dedicate yourself to something at 10-years old and see it through. That kind of conviction and leadership is exactly what the admissions committee is looking for.

Congrats.

If you don't write that, you're a fool. Congrats

Go eagle scouts! caw-CAW! ha ha ha!

I also included my award and continued activity in scouting exactly as described above. I don't think it hurt me in the least.

Liberals hate boyscouts??? That's a strange thing to assume. I don't think that's true at all.

I heard that putting my fraternity executive board positions would hurt me because "adcoms hate fraternities", but I did it anyways because it's part of who I am. I say put it and let your app speak for itself.

Good luck!

I certainly can't speak for all liberals, but I would say that while liberals don't hate boy scouts, some of us do seriously disagree with the positions of Boy Scouts of America. Objections are mainly due to their exclusion of gays.

This. I think it's along the same lines as the military, I might be against a war but I'm not against soldiers. That said, I did the it was quite courageous of some of the Eagle Scouts to return their badges to send a message that they were not okay with the BSA excluding gays. Even if you didn't do that, your work as an Eagle Scout is admirable. It's also the same as me boycotting chick fila, but I'm not going to shame the people who work there, they just are doing there job. It's the higher ups who are the problem.
