are we allowed to bring our own small foam ear plugs to use during step 1 at prometric in addition to the headset provided?

I didn't ask specifically about earplugs, but they make you turn your pockets inside-out and don't let you bring anything into the test center except your ID and the key to your locker (+ a marker and two sheets of plastic to scribble on).

At the stations they have headphones and earmuffs, so you could either wear the headphones the whole time or wear the earmuffs for even more sound blocking - bringing your own earplugs is really unnecessary.

yep, you can bring your own earplugs in. you just have to show them to the security person who is checking you in (and they might have you squeeze them to make sure they are really just earplugs).

rapidreview, you don't have to keep the headphones on at all times. you can just put them on when you have an audio question (only a few on the whole test).

As a large-eared person myself, unless your mother was a pachyderm, you don't need to worry. These are the type of earmuffs people wear on construction sites to block out jackhammers.

And if Prometric is allowing earplugs, that's a phenomenally bad idea. I'm sure someone will/has already used fake earplugs to cheat - even if the administrators are checking them beforehand. If half the ingenuity used to cheat on standardized tests were diverted to a more worthy cause, we'd have cured cancer by now.
