hi. for those who have taken step 1, what types of ear plugs do they supply, ie are the comfortable.

I brought a set of foam ear plugs that they inspected before letting them into the test room. But they provide headsets of their own that I found did a much better job blocking out the sound. Also they advise women to remove any earrings because they can get pretty painful with the headsets as time progresses. I highly recommend checking out the testing site sometime before your exam. Good luck!

I think it depends on the testing center. I took it a few days ago, and I asked if I could bring my own earplugs in. Prometrics said we weren't allowed. They didn't have earplugs for us, but instead they had large noise-cancelling headsets that worked decently. My only complaint is that my set kept making plastic-creaking noises throughout the whole test. I got used to it pretty fast, though.

And I've heard that the headsets hurt if you're wearing glasses... so it may be wise to wear contacts that day and have your glasses ready in case your eyes get too tired from staring at a screen.

They had a pair of what looked like headphones that were not very helpful. We could use our own earplugs though.
