Ear plugs?

Does any one use earplugs when studying and have any recommendations? I am looking for something that is comfortable and blocks out as much noise as possible. I've tried them once before (some brand at CVS) and they were neither comfortable nor effective.

I used to work in a noisy part of a factory and we used a pair that worked wonderfully. They were orange and teardrop-shaped, with a big flange so the teardrop wouldn't get stuck in your ear canal. They slid in instead of compressing and expanding. It looks like you can buy them in single pairs or small batches here...

Not sure how much you want to spend but for what it's worth the Bose headphones work amazingly well and are extremely comfortable. Expensive though.

Every time I hear the word "earplugs", all I can think about are the slides from our ENT sessions of some poor patients with the tips broken off and left to fester against their Tympanic Membranes for half a decade.

On that note, I second the headphone suggestion.

I wear earplugs frequently. For me, every time I start using a new kind of earplug, they are uncomfortable... then I get used to them and they grow on me until I can wear them without feeling anything or noticing they're there. Try giving a pair some time and see what happens.

Some people love the wax kind.

I wear Leight Sleepers while studying and sleeping. They are yellow and pink, and made of a really soft foam so they don't irritate the ear canal even though they sit deep. They expand slowly so you don't have to frantically roll and place them in the ears. I wear them 12-18 hours a day/night (depending on how much noise the neighbors are making) and have not had any issues with comfort.

I found them at CVS. They were five dollars for ten pairs, but have allowed me to sleep more consistently and have improved my focus. I highly recommend them.

earphones. they irritate less than earplugs and drown out more noise. people will just think you're listening to music.

I was a music major in undergrad, and the percussion professor said he actually went to an ear doctor who made a custom pair of ear plugs that conformed to the shape of his ear...

I was also a music major (and percussion lol), I have a pair of the custom ear plugs and they work great. However, I suggested the earphones in an earlier post because the custom plugs (at least from a specialist) are about the same price, and is a much more complicated/time consuming process to have them made.
