After searching the forums, it’s clear that applications marked with an IA are treated in one of three ways:

1-Reviewed at the same time as all other applications :soexcited:

2-Review is slightly delayed – IA applications are set aside for an extra layer of review. Once cleared, applications are added to the total pool of applicants.

3-Reviewed at the end of the cycle - Set aside for review after all other applications have been reviewed (October/November). :bang:

I thought it would be interesting if those of us with IA's could mark our earliest date of receiving an interview invite for each school. We could compare this with this post to get an inside look at how each school treats applications marked with an IA.

DO NOT DELETE THIS LINE!
1) Click "quote" on the most recent post (don't copy and paste!).
2) Add the school's name in alphabetical order
3) Delete the quote tags at both the top and the bottom.

We don't need a list for every single thing. The N is so small for this that this thread is pointless.

9% of students that apply to medical school have an IA... that's not that small. It may be pointless to you, but I doubt it's pointless to students who are freaking out over an IA.

+1 this is getting ridiculous....

9% who apply, but what % of those who are actually accepted??

well considering this is a pre-med forum, not an accepted students forum, i'll stick with the original number

And then what percent post on SDN?

Can we also have a list of schools who have nice secretaries?

Alright guys, everyone is free to post whatever they would like (within reason), especially since I don't believe there is a thread like this. There are certainly duplicate/repetitive threads out there that deserve a reprimand before this one.

That said -- this one will probably get quickly buried since not many people have IAs.

3 interviews so far from my 5 complete applications (most of my apps are waiting on a letter)

Alcohol IAs are nothing, unless you have multiple.

If you've got a 3.9X and a 40 MCAT I don't think they'll care much if you have gotten busted for alcohol...

If you're a borderline applicant it may be a different story

Yes it is very frustrating for those of us who have IAs.

I got one freshman year for noise (one that I really wasn't responsible for or part of, but my university sanctioned me anyway), and since I was a freshman who didn't understand the implications or honestly what it meant, I didn't fight it.

volcomx - that's promising. I have one for allowing my suitemates guest to posess alcohol... boo!

I had an institutional action for "disobeying" the conduct code of a particular class. It was more of a misunderstanding and something that a lot of other people in the class got "caught" with also. But I just got an II from a Texas school yesterday after they received my app just 3 weeks ago. So my guess is that it depends on the school and how serious your IA is. My stats are maybe a bit higher than the average for in-state Texas applicants.

i'll give a bump.

i've messaged some SDN users who are now med students and who applied with IAs...and most of them said their apps weren't delayed at all. granted, they all had minor (though perhaps a bit more serious) IAs than freshman alcohol violations

also, i've directly emailed a handful of adcoms, and they all said that applications marked with IAs are not delayed/placed in separate files.

but again, a handful is not representative of the whole pool
