Invite: First week of September
Interview: September 13 (mine was on the first day of interviews)
Acceptance: September 24 (via snail mail)

VCOM:

I am OOS. My stats aren't good. I got on their wait list. They take about 15 OOS this year as their class has expanded. They also seem to be trying to really get at least 10% OOS students. Their adcom told me that they wanted more diversity.

If you get your apps in early you can definitely get some early interviews. I would work on getting your LORs out as soon as you can. I realize they are doing you a favor/service writing LORs but it's important to stress to your writers the importance sending them out right away. Of course, if you use Interfolio (which I had) or a committee then you don't have to worry about this as much.

Yep! It was awesome! I got a call on my drive home. Nearly drove right off the road I was so excited.

The earlier you get your apps in, the better chances you have of an early interview. My earliest interview was Oct. 12th (around that day) at KCUMB. I heard w/in 7 days regarding my acceptance. All of my other interviews were later b/c I had a different person write some of the LORs and they were a tad on the slow side. My latest interview was the second week in Jan. and I heard w/in 10 days regarding my acceptance.

My early acceptances were probably due to a number of things. My MCATs were average (verbal killed me), but I had a high GPA. I had lots of extracurricular activities, several leadership positions, and tons of research experience (Hopkins, Howard Hughes, etc). I didn't have much volunteer experience.

APPLY EARLY! I can't stress that enough. Make sure your essays answer the question. If you are unsure of your essays, ask a friend/English major/excellent writer to read over them.

Make sure you visit a DO ASAP (I wanted to mention my experience in the personal statement). I shadowed a pulmonologist since I had worked for an MD allergist. My interviews were much easier since I could talk about the similarities and differences between the DO and MD.

When you receive an interview, call the school and ask to talk to several MS2. These students have been there for a year and know the school. You can bring up that you talked to them during your interview.

You put a lot of time/money thus far, so practice for your interview! Find the commonly asked questions and think of honest answers before your interview. Talk to your friends/parents/co-workers about the ethical questions/current events because they will bring up points you never considered. Think of 3 or 4 GOOD questions to ask your interviewer.
