Hi all!

So I was just looking at Pepperdine's PsyD program and noticed that they have an early deadline (mid November) if you want to be considered to interview in December/early January. Has anybody applied to Pepperdine (or any other program) via the early deadline rather than the standard Dec/Jan deadlines? Do you think that route was better/worse?

I know that at least with UGs, early action apps tend to be more competitive and some are binding (if you are accepted you must go) though I don't think Pepperdine's early action is binding. Just a way to potentially interview earlier and (I'm assuming) hearing if you are accepted/rejected/wait listed earlier. So...has anybody had any experience with grad school early action deadlines at Pepperdine or anywhere else that has a similar option?

You aren't required to make any decisions until April 15th for psych grad school. Anything else is against APA rules, so far as I know.

I agree, I don't think early decision would be cool with the APA. It does sound like a way to find out a bit earlier about your status, however, and that can't be a bad thing! I will have to look into it a bit more but it sounds like a good option to me as long as you can get everything together on time. If not, then you still can apply with the regular deadline.

Early decision is also becoming less popular in undergrad (or so I've been told).

Yeppers, I've heard the same. There are also some academic-type articles on early decision programs. Do a search--I'm sure you can find something. 🙂

It is greatly reduced with undergrad as well which I am thankful for! IMO, it was never a good policy and it was all in an effort to increase school's rankings in US News.
