Hello everyone,

For DO schools, what would be considered "early" in terms of rolling admissions. I am currently signed up for an mcat that doesn't release scores until July. Is July too late to register?

I know that people can send out primaries and get verified in June, but would it be worth it to take an April MCAT date to get the scores back in June instead of July? There was no May to June option.

July is fine. I wasn't complete until October and I was perfectly fine.

If you feel prepared, then by all means take the April MCAT. Don't rush the MCAT just to apply early though. And there may be spots open for May and June MCATs closer to the exam dates so check it more frequently in a few months.

Also, "early" depends on your stats. With high MCAT and GPA, you have a bit more leeway in applying later. Though July is by no means late, ideally you want to maximize your chances by having all your transcript/LORs/personal statement ready on June 1st.

Checking back seems like an excellent idea.

I have lower GPA than most, so I would like to apply ASAP. I know that you can send out primary and secondary apps as early as June without an MCAT.

DO you mind if I ask when you took the MCAT and what your stats were?

My stats were good. They weren't insane but they were at or above the average for DO schools. But I applied to one school in late November and I even got a II there. Point is if you are complete before september you are more then fine at DO schools. I would venture to say even October and November like I ended up doing is fine.

I took theMCAT way before the cycle began. I didn't apply right away because other things were holding me back. It was annoying.

Like it was stated, you can always try to look for an earlier date, but applying in June or July shouldn't be an issue. Honestly, if I were you, I would take the later MCAT so I could prepare more and really ensure I am going to rock it, but fill out my primary application as soon as possible. Then I would just submit it to one school I don't really care about so it gets verified, and after you get your MCAT score and have a better understanding of where you stand, then apply to a bunch of schools. This way you will already be verified and don't have to wait for your application to be sent out to ask the other schools and still be considered early.

This is very important. Get your personal statement/primary app done early so that you can turn it in when the app submission opens. Then, start pre-writing your secondaries. Make sure if you are applying to MD & DO schools, you try to write the personal statement a little differently (like for DO - make it a little bit more DO specific).
