Early application with a late interview?

So I had my applications (primary and secondary) in as early as possible for the schools I applied to. I feel lucky to have had 2 invites so far but the rest of the schools have been completely silent otherwise.

I understand that "no news is good news" to a certain point but does anyone have specific experience putting in apps "early" and receiving interview invites "late"? TYIA!
