Early Assurance

I know that some schools offer early assurance programs, Wake Forest, UConn, to name two. How competive are these positions, I found alot of info on the Wake Forest program, but none on UConn's. Anyone know the difficulty level and requirements, like GPA and MCAT?

I have heard that Wake Forest not only looks at MCAT scores and GPAs for early assurance applicants, but they also look very closely at the school that the candidate is attending as an undergraduate. A friend of mine who is attending James Madison University, a very good public college in Virginia, inquired with Wake about the program and was told "don't bother" with applying. There was no discussion of MCATs or GPAs with her at all! They want applicants only from "very competitive schools" according to their admissions information (whatever that means). I guess they know what it means to them and they mean it !! Anyway, it is obviously very important to them since an early assurance applicant may have not taken the MCAT yet. They are clearly looking to pick off a few choice candidates and lock them in. They treat EA hacceptances as binding. I do not know about UConn.

Yes, these are combined BS/MD programs. They are early assurance programs, but what seems different about the program at Wake is that at Wake you go through the regular primary and secondary application process, go to interviews, etc just like a regular med school applicant. You are doing it a year earlier though, during the fall of your Junior year. And it is open to students from places other than the Wake undergrad program.

I know the type that you are talking about, but those are rare (open to everyone), most of the programs like that are only open to their own undergrad class. I know that VCU/MCV has this sort of thing for their sophomores. I do wish that these programs are more well known, because they are a really great opportunity for any premed. Too bad most of the time, these info are only circulate in a very small circle.
