Hello all,

I am considering applying for the Indiana early decision option and have a few questions. Has anyone in this group done it? Is it binding (can I apply to other schools after and if I get accepted)?

Also, I have noticed a strangely small amount of information about Indiana on this forum. From what I have read, it seems like a great school. How does it compare to ICO? It seems like practically everyone on this forum wants to go to ICO, while not many want to go to Indiana. Why is that? The tuition is about the same for both (really high). Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I think the main reason ICO is more popular is location. Both are great programs, but IU is in Indiana, 1.5 hours from Indianopolis the "big city" in Indiana. I did research at IU and I really liked the program, but I could see myself getting homesick for a more city, less college town feeling.

Plus there was a tornado my first week in Indiana. Scary! Scarier than an earthquake! No really i was really really scared.

Chicago is such a great town, lots of culture, but it also has that midwest appeal (love those mid westerners, suh manners 😍 )

If you're in the state of Indiana and want to go to IU, then it's probably a pretty smart choice over ICO, considering cost. However, for out-of-staters, the cost is pretty much comparable, so there are other things to consider. After visiting both schools, I thought the facilities at ICO were better than those at IU. The feel of the schools differs too though - big city, versus college town... depends on what you're looking for.
As for the early decision bit - I'm not quite sure how it works, but if you haven't yet visited IU, or any optometry school for that matter, I wouldn't lock into one too soon.

I was accepted at both ICO and IU and chose IU for the opposite reason as iiiimonica. Personally, i liked the smaller college town over the big city of Chicago. If you're an indiana resident, this is really a no-brainer. You will save a ton of money if you go to IU and your education will be just as good as the one you'd get from ICO.

I know my first year, we had two people that got into the school about two weeks before classes started. That would have be very difficult to just up and move at the very last notice. Luckily they were both from missouri. Best of luck to all on their wait-lists.
