I know that the admission committee prescreen the early decision applicants before they apply for the early decision program. For the applicants who do get approved to apply early, what percentage of them get into their medical program? Since you wouldn't find out until october 1st, it would be really messy if have to wait until mid october to apply to other schools.
Does any school give 100% assurance for their early decision applicants? What about the schools in DC area? UVA, VCU, EVMS, GWU, Howard?
thanks

you have to be really competitive for their school. I wouldn't ever do it unless I had like a 3.8/38/excellent ECs and was fairly sure I would be accepted to several top level schools.

Your scores don't have to be that high for Early Decision!

Admission Directors have told me that the kind of people they'd like to see apply ED are those that would have been accepted eventually anyways. So if you meet the average acceptance criteria for that school, with maybe just a little bit better stats than that, then you are good to go with ED.

well i certainly don't have highly competitive stats. my mcat is actually a little lower than their avg; but I have been in their waiting list for a long time.

didn't say your scores had to be sky-high, that's just what it would take for me to put that much on the line by choosing ED.

there's a lot at risk if you don't have a competitive app.

Very true...it is a risk as if you don't get in, you are a little bit late in the regular application process for that year, but still not impossible.

Not sure if you were initially referring to any specific school but at FSU, at least from my experience, they didn't do any "prescreening" for the ED applicants, at least not for my app. I ended up not getting in, in fact, they failed to let me know my status by the Early Decision deadline. My GPA was a little below average, but my MCAT was well above so I thought I had a decent shot.

Can someone explain how this whole process works to me? Thanks
