People who are extended early interviews, are schools more "lenient" on who they accept? Or does applying early just get you the interview invite easier?

Also, do schools tend to scrutinize OOS students more than IS? less because in some cases they had to travel so far (you never know!).

Eh, I am no expert, but I have been around these forums quite a while and I feel like I can answer this pretty close to what others could expect. Goro has mentioned in the past that schools may have a tendency of giving interviews to the applicants who are more appealing to the school ADCOMs. That being said, you HAVE to interview to get an acceptance to a school, therefore you would expect to have an earlier acceptance if your application and interview seem fitting for the school. other than that I would guess you are going to be wait listed or declined acceptance.

And no, I do not think for a second they care how far you have to drive. Heck, they interviewees probably have no idea where you are from until your interview is in session. OOS is OOS is OOS.

I have no idea about the first half. You'll have to wait to hear from an adcom.

In regards to the second part, no they definitely don't care how far you traveled. At the LECOM interview on 7/17 not a single person there was from PA lol.

I don't 'think schools are more lenient, but typically the acceptance % is higher early on because they are better candidates.

OOS vs IS would largely be dependent on the school, but for most DO schools I would bet they don't care

Isn't it reverse. Typically, the 'better' candidates come later because they were still getting their app together, maybe retook the MCAT, couldn't get in MD, or are MD candidates but applying DO as backup. Early on I always see the underdawgs being encouraged to apply early. Hence, people with high stats have a much tougher time getting in later in the cycle cuz fewer seats and competeting with tougher competition.

Not true. Also, adcoms at DO schools who see high stat applicants applying late in the cycle tend to be skeptical that these are candidates who had no success in MD apps and are resorting to DO "since they'll definitely get in since their stats are XX". Being advised to apply early is not reserved only for underdogs, it's standard advice to give an applicant the best chance of receiving interviews/acceptances.

I think it's the other way around. People with lower stats will have a harder time getting a seat. Thus, the sole reason why it's smart to apply early, if you have lower stats, to fill those empty seats.

I should've reworded that. Meant to say *everyone has a harder time getting in, even those with high stats.
