I'm new to SDN and had some questions:

Do early interviews have better chances of admissions? For example, if someone interviewed on the first pre-Dec date vs the last pre-Dec date, does that mean they have a better shot? Also, is it true that schools usually try to pick their top people for that first pre-Dec interview date?

Thanks!

I believe that there is generally some truth to schools trying to get the best candidates through their door as early as possible. I don't necessarily think that this translates to preference over someone interviewing in October or November, but you'll probably see more acceptances from the early groups since schools are pretty efficient at knowing what type of applicants will mesh well with their school. If they have a stellar applicant that doesn't get their application in until mid to late August, then I doubt they would weigh when they interviewed over the quality of their app and interview.

In short, early interviewees may have a higher rate of admission, but only because they are more likely to be the type of applicant the school is looking for.
