I was hoping if you could help me out with understanding Pharmacy Applications.
As a high school senior, I pretty much will have all the prerequisites completed before entering college, thanks to over 10 AP Classes. I only have to take Organic Chem classes and three others which I can easily complete in one year which are required for the pharmacy programs that I am considering applying to. So am I allowed to apply early to the Pharmacy School as long as I have the prereqs done? (In one year rather than two) I also am planning to do summer session 2012 to make sure I have everything done and organized. Also I will make sure to have the PCAT and other requirements. Thanks any feedback would be appreciated. 🙂

Have you made sure that pharmacy schools will accept AP Exams in place of actual courses? Just because a university/college accepts an AP EXAM does not mean a Pharmacy School will. Also, some universities may give you credit for 3,4 AP scores but some Pharmacy schools do not take 3s and I'm under the assumption that most don't take anything except a 5.

It really can't be this easy can it? I'm really interested to see how pharmacy schools go about this. I never took an AP class in high school. If it works this way man i wish i could go back in time lol

Many schools will not accept AP Exams so you have to take the classes in college anyway. Huge pain, I know, I did it because my number one choice for pharmacy school does not accept any APs. Or if a school does accept AP credit, they might want you to take an additional upper level class in the same subject to prove you actually learned something in your AP class. Its something you will have to look into with the specific schools you want to attend.

This was a consideration for me hen I was applying, and one school (Temple) told me I may be able to pull it off, but kep in mind that if you took general bio soph or jr year of hs, you might not remember it for the pcat and do poorly. I ended up doing it in 6 years, which is still "early" compared to people who get bachelors degrees before pharm school. By the time you're applying, 0-6 programs may be turned into 0-7 programs (yes, this is happening sometime soon).

Some schools seemed to be more willing to take things like English Literature and Macroeconomics than Biology.

Some were fine accepting AP credits as long as they appeared on your college transcripts.

Others have very detailed guides of what they will and will not accept detailed by course and score.

Once again, every school is different.🙂

ETA: Those of you still in high school, do not throw away your AP number. It can be very annoying to track down twelve years after the fact. Ask me how I know.
