Early result rumors

Rumors have been going around that you can call the NRMP and ask where you matched and they will tell you before match day. Apparently, a couple of people have successfully done this. I'm wondering if anyone has any more information about that and if this is something that is known that you could do. I'm too scared to do it myself as I don't want to violate anything without my knowledge. Anyone know anything?

If you are part of a couples match and your partner did not match, you can call them and they will tell you the city where you matched. If you only ranked one program in that city then yes, you will know where you matched. Others will have to wait until Friday.

I heard the NRMP will tell you where your buddy matched if you tell them you need to know because you want to play a practical joke on him.

If you are part of a couples match and your partner did not match, you can call them and they will tell you the city where you matched. If you only ranked one program in that city then yes, you will know where you matched. Others will have to wait until Friday.

I knew this already but this person wasn't part of a couple's match.

They probably wouldn't but my adrenaline is running so high over this match day wait that I'm prone to overreaction. Plus, I heard this anecdotally and I don't want to be 'that guy' that calls to annoy the NRMP so I was hoping someone would confirm that it is possible.

If they are able to relay that information to couples, I don't see why they wouldn't be able to tell everyone. Let's say hypothetically that my significant other needs to decide whether or not to take a job in a specific location by Thursday. Does that not qualify as good enough of a reason as somebody that is part of a couples match?

It's been the longest couple of weeks of my life.

I applied based on region for personal reasons, so I'm really stressed. Either way, between myself and my grandparents someone is going to be disappointed. They seem to be excited about the thought of bragging to their friends that I work at their favorite community hospital. I, on the other hand, am not sharing their hopes.

When I tried to explain to them why I want my #1, my very non-medical grandmother stated, "Oh, you don't really know what you want."

They are "able" to tell you. They are just not "willing" to tell you.

Sorry, am I not supposed to have curiosity here? Pretty sure it's an interesting topic, since the next 36 hours promise to be the longest in my short life. Maybe it's different for someone who is NOT currently awaiting match results. Yes, that must be it.

Of course you can be curious. But the thread is about whether you can call the NRMP and get your match result now. The answer is no.

If you need something to calm you down until tomorrow, head over to the horror show that is the SOAP thread. Seeing what those folks are suffering through will put a 1 day wait in it's appropriate perspective.

Except if they are able to find a spot they get to know where it is immediately. We don't. Life is unfair 🙄 /not serious
