anyone know what the big differences are between eastern virginia and virginia commonwealth? i'm not a va resident, but was thinking of applying to one of them, not both though ... any comments would be helpful, thanks!

I think most people would consider VCU/MCV over EVMS. I am not trying to pick any fights with EVMS students/lovers that is just the sentiment I have gotten from people applying to both from instate. They both are good schools. I believe EVMS is a newer medical school and therefore the facilities are newer, but also hasn't had as many years to build a reputation. That is the short answer....I really am a lazy typist. PM me if you have any other questions I'll be glad to answer them if I can.

the reputation of MCV may be a bit better, but i was really impressed with EVMS. I wont be attending there, but their students seemed genuinely happy and they had strong board scores....so they prepare you well. would you rather be in richmond or close to the beach?? EVMS even takes a weekend trip to go camping i believe. i can't speak for MCV, but im confident that EVMS is not very competitive...it's more of a laid back environment.

thanks for your responses! i'd rather be closer to a beach, but then again, we're all going to med school to become doctors, right? so in the end, i'd choose the school that would prepare me better for it, which sounds like it'd be MCV...

well if you check other posts on EVMS, you will find that they have a better primary care program (I remember reading it on this board somewhere...do a search).....so if you are leaning towards PC, I would suggest EVMS.

What is the chance for out of state applicant at EVMS? I must have overlooked an inportant fact. May be I should have applied to that school too.

both evms and vcu have a lot of slots for out of state residents. I recieved interview invites from both, and I was not a top quality applicant. If you want to sprinkle lots of out of state schools on your application, these two are good picks.

i think both will prepare you equally well...but, evms does have the higher board scores/pass rate...and the standardized patient program which VCU 'borrows' from to teach their students.
