I've been thinking about this a bit lately as my MD classmates have been loading up on interest clubs, volunteering etc.

I have one activity that I'm involved with that I actually like (because it has to do with research) and I know I will be involved with a conference that my program will host eventually, and there are definitely other opportunities I can look into during the PhD years. Right now, though I don't see the point of interest clubs since I'm really undecided with regard to specialty and a lot of volunteering is hard to access w/o a car.

Should I be concerned about adding things to my CV at this stage? Will it be relevant in grant applications? How important is it for residency applications?
I would rather use my time on other things but I will adjust if it's important.

Thanks!

It is important to have something in life other than research. Residency directors WILL ask you if not in the application. As MD/PhD student, a lot of other activities are not expected but some level even if once a month is necessary for your own mental health and for Residency PDs.
Thanks! I have other hobbies that I enjoy outside of medical school, so hopefully that will do. The interest clubs are not very (hah) interesting to me right now.
