Hi,

I am new to this forum. I am preparing for my NBDE-1 to appear in July.
I just received my ECE score today. shocking... It is very low... 2.4...
Will there be any chance for getting admission anywhere in US, if I can get a good score in NBDE-1. Please let me know where I stand..
I really appreciate your suggestions/ comments..

Thanks a lot..

Well, the same thing happened with one of my friends and some one told him to take additional courses....But I dont know what exactly that means and how its gonna help. Is there no ways you guys can increase your gpa?

Hi,
Just a piece of advice from my experience...yes, you still can get in inspite of the low GPA...It would be wise to get a WES evaluation as well...and also work on what you will tell interviewers as they will try to grill you on this point....
If you have never had any failing grades throughout your dental school , then you will get a much better wes gpa and you can always emphasize this during the interview....\

Good luck , 👍

Thanks a lot for your advice. I have 60% but I have failed in two subjects(practicals). Can I atleast get an interview call?. Do you think I have any chance of improving my GPA with WES?. I believe they are asking for transcripts of memos rather than photo copies.

There are 2 organizations doing evaluvation, they are ECE and WES. i think ece is from milwaukee.

Hey Guys,

Thought I would post the experience that I've had with credential evaluators. I have had both ECE and WES evaluations done. ECE seems to be accepted universally whereas WES is not accepted by some institutions like NYU and Boston.

I originally got an ECE done but my GPA for dental school was really low. I then found out that some people were getting higher GPAs with WES and so applied for that too. I just got my WES GPA back today and it rocks! So I would definately recommend a WES evaluation if your ECE is low.

Just a note of caution, If you apply for a WES evaluation, make sure you do it well in advance...apply now! I had alot of problems with the company in terms of getting it done in time to meet school deadlines and found that their customer service is not great. For a start, if you want to speak to someone on the phone, you're usually on hold for between 30min -1 hour. They also want your transcript direct from your school so this will take time too (try and get it sent by courier if poss). They claim that they never received mine when it was first sent and so I had to send it again. They didn't start the evaluation until after I kept calling them to follow it up and they never replied to my emails. Then I had more problems getting it mailed to me...The website claims it takes 7 days to complete a report. I applied in December and got it back only today (that was after paying an extra $100 for a rush service!)

Anyway, I don't want to put anyone off because I still ended up with a better GPA and feel it was worth it. I just want you to be prepared and not go through the hastle I did!

Good luck!

Thanks so much Dibbles. You really made my day.. I feel so energetic after reading your post.
One quick question.. did you have any failed subjects?. If possible, can you please write WES evaluation criteria according to your experience.

My friend didnt find out about courses like that. But he is planning to retake part1 to improve his scores. He also got his evaluation done from wes and he said that it was better. But again the schools he wants to Apply to like bu and nyu donot accept it...So he is concentrating on getting good part 1 scores

HI Surav,
I will suggest that you concentrate on your scores... iguess if yo take a look at the thread of acceptance members there are people with alow GPA like 2.8-2.9 getting acceptance in best schools like BU which supposedly doesnt take u with a score less that 90 and a GPA cut of 3.0.
WES may help you as well but then at the same time its not a gaurantee that theschools will accept th at evaluation ...NYU for one which took WES until last year has now change dits policy and is no longer considerin gg the evaluation from any other source except ECE.
It might be beneficial to go to the school web sites and see their specific req's before investing time and money in going thru another specific evaluation services.
Also mainly the GPA is a grilling factor in the interviews when you have a high score and a low GPA and if you have a relevant explanation or a great experience in hand to compensate for past dental school failures i doubt if thats going to be a hinderance factor in any way to your admission to dental school .
good luck and keep applying .: -)

Thanks so much.. I will concentrate on my score at this point.

I agree with the others, concentrate on Part 1 first and do the best you can, that is more important. However alot of schools do accept WES (more than those who don't) so if you feel like you will want to get a WES evaluation later, I would suggest just get it now, that way you have more time for them to get all the docs and will save alot of stress later. Good luck with your preparation...
