ECFMG Cert. is it a must while Applying??

Hey guys this question is mostly for the IMGs.
Many of the programs require a valid ECFMG certificate in their application requirements. They rarely get into the specifics, so am not sure if they need the ECFMG cert before the match or before we even apply to them. Although technically they would require the cert only before the match right?
Why am i asking all of this... don't have my ecfmg cert and hoping for it to be ready by Dec/Jan .

Same here. I mailed some of the programs asking this very thing, and most were just as ambiguous in their replies. Some (I don't want to name names) seemed to be quite unaware as to what this certification means / involves (actually said that it's ok if I don't have my Step 2 CK score, or if I haven't yet passed the CS, but I definitely need the Certificate by their individual deadline!!!!). One program said that they only need the certificate by the date rank order lists are due...

Don't worry, apply to places where u feel confident of getting. Screw the ECFMG Cert... Just make sure its ready by Jan 1st week atleast
I'm taking my step 2 CS in sep...so if they delay the results of that till jan , i am done for ! 😱

Well... I'm waiting for my CS results now, and I'm taking CK on the 20th, but I have the creepy feeling that the my cert will be delayed by the most absurd one of them all: my school is terribly slow in "processing" that verification ECFMG has sent... Ughh!

My g/f took the CS on the same day, at the same CSEC and got her result in 3 weeks! Mine didn't show up yet. However, the point is you must hope for the best (it can happen).

just wondering how many imgs applying this year, already have their step 2 scores. im planning to take it oct. 1, and due to the score delays, will prob only get scores back in middle nov. one school already emailed and asked for step 2 scores and ecfmg certificate.
