ECFMG certification for SOAP

Do all medical students who want to SOAP have to be ECFMG certified, or is that just for foreign medical graduates?

Background: One of my classmates is still waiting on her Step 2 CK score. We're at a US MD school.

As a US MD U do not have to be certified. It is only for FMGs and am certain but U can reconfirm. Why is she worried? How many IVs she got without CK score?

Sometimes programs are reluctant to rank without CK

She got 10 interviews, but they were at programs that didn't require CK, so it's all good. Thanks 🙂

Yes it should be okay being a U.S. grad!

ECFMG is only for foreign grads, has nothing to do with American grads. It stands for Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates.

Also ECMFG certification is NOT required for SOAP, but you are required to have passed Step 1, 2 CK and CS. Certification is the completion of those exams plus your med school diploma. So if you're a foreign grad and you've passed the Steps but not received your diploma yet, you can still participate in SOAP.

I believe the OP's question is whether US grads can SOAP without CK/CS. The answer is that unlike foreign grads, they can.
