For Pharmacy, especially for Accelerated programs, are Economics and Statistics a MUST ? 😕 THey won't accept you if you don't satisfy the course requirements right ? 😕

Sorry but, most school require macro or micro and a few require statistics.
you need to do research on your school of interest.

would ag econ satisfy that? ag econ as in agricultural economics. seems like it would since we basically did microeconomics with respect to cows and corn xP

the course number has to be transferable for pharmcas as a general macro or micro class. At my university, agricultural economics is separate and different from macro or micro economics and so, is counted as an elective for an economics major. But, you need to call the school asking whether this class satisfies their econ requirement.

as an elective for an economics major, but comparable to general econ for any other major.

Nearly all the pharm schools I've seen have required econ (only either macro or micro), and only a few require stats.

They'll reject your app outright if you haven't taken it. Luckily, econ and stats are really easy.

I agree with the above posters. When deciding on which courses to take, look at the schools you want to apply to and find out what they require. Also, if you have a question about a specifc course and if it counts as one of the requirements, contact the schools you are interested in and ask. It is always better to be safe rather than sorry.

They won't reject you if you haven't taken these courses. I am taking these courses this spring and I interviewed at a program and have an interview at another. Both programs require econ and stats. They just want to know that you plan on taking them before you are matriculated. You can be interviewed and accepted with prereqs. to finish as long as you show the ad com that you plan to complete them.

OK, so after you finish undergrad, if they look at your transcript and don't see all the courses they require, they'll reject you outright huh ? 🙄

Btw, Massachusetts school requires a course in "Introduction to History and Politics", but my school (and my other schools) don't offer such a course! How can I satisfy this requirement ? 🙄

If you already have a degree you can always take the necessary classes this summer before pharm school starts, that's what I plan on doing. Though some schools require the pre-reqs to be finished by the end of Spring 08 for entry in Fall 08 so check the individual school requirements on that.

You know it is still possible to take classes post graduation. I am taking classes right not after I received my B.S. so I can fulfill prereqs. I have already been accepted to MCPHS-Worcester without completing physics w/lab, econ, stats, psych, an upper level psych, and sociology. Do some research first.

Wow you had lots of uncompleted prereqs!!
Did your school offer the "History and Politics" course?? That's a strange course!

PS: what is the Early Decision deadline for MCPHS ???

It's not history and politics. It's history or political science. I took both as an undergrad so I didn't really have to worry about it.

There is no early decision for MCPHS-Worcester. I am not sure if MCPHS-Boston has early decision. Check pharmcas for info on MCPHS-Boston.

Another question though : is this program MCPHS going more toward RETAIL than hospital career, right ?

I did not get that impression when I interviewed there, and the classes seem on par to other program's classes. Maybe a current student can inform you.
