I'm applying next year to hopefully matriculate in fall of '28 (one gap year, not afraid of more). Want to shoot high.

Stats: 3.97, MCAT in September.


Clinical: ~500

Volunteering: 150

Home care CNA: 180

Nursing home CNA: 165

Shadowing: 56
- good mix w/ OR and FM


Research:

4 low impact first author posters

1 second author poster that was presented at a regional conference (I wasn't there)

1 semi-competitive paid research stipend


Non Clinical Volunteering: ~250

100 hours diaper bank

60 hours blood drives

35 hours student food pantry

50 hours crisis text line


Hobbies / leadership / personal flavor lmao:

2 semesters / ~50 hours volunteer at university sex-ed and sex positivity organization

Serious creative writing pursuit including publications and leadership

esports tournament organizer (paid, IRL, large scale) + president of university gaming club

Camp counselor for several years @ rustic sleepaway camp

Food service job at student union

Thanks for any input, y'all! Currently, I plan to lock in on research, clinical volunteering, CTL, and the food pantry, all of which I enjoy doing.

I think you’re in a good position hours-wise. Try to get a few hundred hours in in-person underserved environments (food bank, homeless shelter, job prep).

The other thing I notice is that I can’t quite understand what your fit in medicine is. How do all your experiences come together to paint a picture of who you want to be in medicine beyond box checking? Work on your story and your why.

Also, once you have an MCAT score start thinking of a school list, places that match your mission fit.

I had a lot more about mission fit but edited my post for length, didn't realize I removed it all lmao. My mission is to improve outcomes for stigmatized issues, especially those relating to gender and sexuality. It would tie together more if I gave you more detail--like my gender studies minor and my research with implications for gender affirming care. Though, writing this out, you make me realize I need more.

the numbers look great and im sure your tired of hearing it but whatever you are passionate about is what you should spend a lot of time doing. It comes across clearly in interviews if you really love what you did or just checking a box!
