Senior year is almost over and I am relieved (I am sure I am not alone) Not that summer is approaching and the buzz of ap testing, finals, and pre-college registration just about over, we (the class of 2010) can now look forward to a summer of grad parties, fun, and overall relaxation. Though this summer will be extremley relaxing, I have a lot of things on my plate including:

1) I am going to a summer volunteering program at my local hospital (about 10 hours a week all summer)

2) I am going to be part of staff of my alumni high school marching band as they prepare for the fall competitive season with mini band camp in june, weekly practice all summer, and band camp in early august. (This one I am particularly excited about because I owe so much to the director and band in terms of the kind of person I am today, they're family to me 😀)

3) Volunteering for my church (Vacation Bible School and Bazaar which is one of the biggest ones in the state)

4)Shadow my Physician (thankfully he is a Polak like me so he is willing to help🙂)

I guess I am asking is do these count for our med school applications of the future?

What is everybody else doing this summer?

Don't overload your plate. It's good to start volunteering and stuff early but on the application, quality counts more than quantity (you only get 15 spots anyway). If you're going to continue at the same hospital you'll be volunteering at through college, that would be great. Keep participating in things that you like, that actually interest you.

But at the end of the day, I didn't list anything I did pre-college on my app. Do things that mean something to you, not the admissions people, at this point.
