Im a Florida premed. Heres the breakdown of my app. I know my GPA is great and everything, I hear it from my advisors, etc but what about the rest of my app? Im a little concerned that my ECs are not up to par. What are my chances of getting into a FL school?
Major😛sychology(Senior 105 credit hours)
cGPA:3.923
sGPA:3.95
MCAT: Idk, still studying for it. I just got a 37 on a Kaplan full length, so assume a 32 on the real thing..?
ECs, projected by the time I submit my app in August:
1 year research in Biochemical sciences no pub (10-15 hrs/week..so at least 500 hrs total experience)
1 year Paid tutor in on-campus tutor lab for Orgo (5 hrs/wk)
1 Year hospital volunteer ICU (about 150 hours total)
3 doctors shadowed (about 75-80 hours total)
1 semester volunteer anatomy TA for a lab section
Presented research on leadership at a research conference (like a month ago)

Ideally, are there any medical school matriculants that can shed some light? If not, anything would help.

Hi, CTP. I gather that you are not a medical student at your Status suggests.

I think your chances of getting into a Florida school would in general be pretty good. August is a late submission time, however, and implies that it will be another 4-5 weeks before your application is verified (September) and sent to schools, and perhaps a month after that (October) before all Secondaries are received and returned. This will decrease your chances somewhat and you might want to reconsider that.

To put your ECs into perspective:

Your BCH research is about average in duration, but that you presented your data (from a second project?) at a conference (if not a campus event) is very good. That you have teaching experience X2 is excellent. Your shadowing sounds perfect. The clinical experience is below average relative to other applicants, but you have a good number of hours and a year's worth is acceptable. You do have some nonmedical volunteer work, but if you were to do anything before applying to make your application more appealing, I'd suggest you start some nonmedical/noncampus community service and continue it through the application year (eg soup kitchen, womens or homeless shelter, Humane Society, Habitat for Humanity), along with the hospital volunteering, to give pertinent activities to include in future update letters and interview conversations.

thanks for the advice...yeah definitely not a medical student i rushed through registration.

oh yeah, sorry i forgot to answer your question. The second project was a completely different psychology study I did that I presented the data on. So not science related, but my understanding is AdComs like that kinda thing..?
