Hello med student people,
From my reading, it's my understanding while you do want to try to keep up hobbies/exercise for your own health, extracurricular activities are not as significant in applying for residency positions..

So with the time pressures of medical school, have you had to reduce the number of volunteer/community/student group commitments that you participate in, and by how much compared to undergrad?
Just wondering 🙂

In my experience, most people I knew did volunteer work, community service and the like as something to put on a med school application. Once you're in med school, there is not the feeling that if you don't spend your free time volunteering in some fashion, you will be at a disadvantage compared to your peers. Also, there is a lot less free time while in med school. There are plenty of great opportunities available for those who are interested, though, and I have found that when people are spending their time volunteering, it is because they are truly interested in what they are doing rather than having something to fill in for "community service".
