Can anyone help me out...

I'm giving a lecture on ECT and anesthesia, and along with info about history, decrisption, methods on anesthesia, etc, I also want to include some common questions or topics on the written boards about ECT. Like those "buzz word" questions/topics that are "on the board every year" kind of thing.

Anyone think of any specifially relating to ECT and anesthesia? THanks

Not US boards but Canadian:

ECT and coronary artery disease
ECT and pacemaker / AICD
ECT and seizure that won't stop
ECT and pregnancy
ECT and intracranial mass - yeah I know, would not touch that one with a 10 foot pole.

Think about the physiologic effects of ECT. You can predict what could be asked based on that knowledge.

last year's ITE had some ?'s about methohexital and ECT. none this year that I remember.
Remember something about a pt having ECT then doing an immediate second round of ECT. Which one of these drugs decreases the evidence of clinical siezure?

i just read about a case report of awareness during ECT anesthesia but without awareness afterwards.

another thing is perhaps the debate of propofol vs methohexital vs etomidate use. my school's hospital actually uses etomidate for all ECTs (prolongs seizures) but I don't believe this is the case for all hospitals.

Old ITE questions on ECT:

ABA 1994 ITE Book A, #12
ABA 1994 ITE Book B, #82
ABA 1995 ITE Book B, #111
ABA 1995 ITE Book B, #152 (question thrown out by the ABA)
ABA 1996 ITE Book B, #56
ABA 1996 ITE Book B, #64
ABA 1996 ITE Book B, #137

Download the test books and answer keys at http://www.asahq.org/continuinged.htm#in

There were more in the 1990-1993 books but I don't have those indexed. You can also get the content outline from that page which probably lists specific topics in ECT.
