I am considering a going for a masters before jumping into a Doc program, mainly because I did not get into my top choice doc programs.

So far, I have been offered acceptance into Columbia's Ed.M. program and Fordham's MSE program. I want to eventually go for either the PsyD or Counseling PhD and have a private practice, specializing in adolescence but not necessarily in a school setting.

Any thoughts on either of these programs?

First of all, congratulations on your acceptances!

I have a Master of Education (Ed.M./M.Ed.-same thing) in Counseling but it's from Boston University not Columbia. I do know Columbia's program is a licensure-track program and you would come out with the chance to take the LPC/LMHC exams. This could be important to you - it was for me. I wanted a Psy.D./Ph.D. but in the event I did not get accepted anywhere this Spring, I wanted to know that I would have a solid license to fall back on.

I do not know if Fordham's program prepares you for licensure or not. If that too is a Master's in Counseling Psychology I would say make your decision based on location/money & funding/and program fit.

Good luck in the decision making process, you have two great schools to choose from.
