Hi Edinburgh students!

I am visiting there in a week and am wondering what to see in the area. I'll be there for two days. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

cool! what are you visiting for? Are you going to see the dick vet school? I only visited for a short stay, but you should go eat at the Elephant House- it's where J.K. Rowling started writing Harry Potter. And go climb Arthur's Seat, that's always fun. If you like rock climbing, or just want to try, Edinburgh has the largest indoor rock climbing center in the world! I am so glad I picked Edinburgh and I'll be living there soon! 😀

have fun, let me know how it is!

Thanks for the tips! I'm just going on vacation and figured you Edinburgh students might have a good idea on cool things to do!

Sorry to barge in on your thread but I've got a question for the Edinburgh students as well - where to live? I'm leaning towards Pollock Halls but only because they look to be closest to Summerhall on the map. As an international student I figure living in a dorm for the first year will take a bit of pressure off and allow me to meet more people.

Hi pressmom,

Obviously not an Edinburgh student, but I really loved visiting the castle. It's got beautiful views of the North Sea (? I think?) and the Scottish crown jewels, etc. I just loved it and thought it was beautiful.

I think I probably liked the "old" half of the city more than the "new"--but then, I'm a sucker for that type of architecture. 🙂

Have fun! It's one of the most beautiful places out there!!!! I would love to go back!!!

Any students still in Edinburgh? I'm flying over next week for a tour of the school; but I would like to get an actual student's perspective while I'm over there. Quite happy to buy a few rounds in exchange for it =)

I just came back from a semester abroad at Edinburgh, and I lived in Pollock. Pollock halls are definitely nice in regards to its location being quite close to Summerhall. However, you should remember that for the most part, those halls will be filled with 18 year old, first year undergrads. So, if you're not up for that traditional dorm experience, I would avoid Pollock.

On the other hand, there are tonsss of people around for you to meet if you live in Pollock. Of course, most of them will be 1st year undergrads, so I don't know how much it'll help with meeting vet students. Also, you should think about whether or not you would like to cook your own meals. I'm not positive, but i'm pretty sure that everyone in Pollock is on a mandatory meal plan.

Hope this helps, i'd be happy to answer any more questions.

PS: Edinburgh is AMAZING. I spent sooo much time just roaming the royal mile because its so beautiful. Also, walk along Princes Street- the views are incredible.
