I've seen a few threads in the archives, but no one seems to have a real answer.

If you apply early decision for a MD school, can you still apply DO (regular decision) before being rejected by the MD school?

Some people say if you apply EDP, you can only apply to one medical school -- MD or DO -- until you find out whether you're accepted or rejected. Others say due to the two systems -- AMCAS and AACOMAS -- you can still apply DO even if you apply EDP to MD.

Any help is appreciated.

The two systems do not communicate, so I don't see the problem with this on a base level. Should you in clear conscience apply? I'll let you decide.

Clear concise?

Just apply, there are people doing WAY worse things to get into Medical school, applying to them is by a long stretch something that should invoke moral questioning.

Nothing wrong with applying to other professional programs with separate application systems.

I did this last cycle (detailed in my MD Apps if interested). AMCAS and AACOMAS are two totally different system so there is no way the MD school would find out unless you tell them. You're still following the EDP rule of only applying to one MD school. It says nothing about DO schools, which is a totally different type of professional school.

Anyway, applying to both went really well for me. I never felt guilty or anything and I really liked having the safety net of the DO schools. If you're really worried about it, you can wait to apply DO until after October 1st, but honestly I don't think that's necessary.

Yes, we get them all the time. Keep in mind that the DO app cycle last longer than the MD one.

I think it all depends on the school too. I was considering this option since I had already applied broadly to MD programs and had a single DO school in mind that I wanted to attend. I looked into their early decision program and it said "medical school" so I decided to just apply broadly instead.

If they say MD or DO in their description I feel that its alright. Either way they will never know unless you tell them.
