Nah, then "EDP People" would be "Emotionally Disturbed People People."
Good luck to the EDP folks! I'm not EDP this year, but I will be if I have to apply again. 😀
by aamc law, the earliest edps can hear is october 1st 😀

Closure, for one thing.
depending on the school, it can also greatly increase your chance of acceptance if you have certain stats. MCG's edp acceptance rate is five times higher than regular acceptance
DW is right.. Depending on the school, there are specific advantages toward applying early decision. My stats are competitive and there is a moderate chance I could get accepted at top 20 schools, but an extremely large chance that I could get accepted at my state school and pay hardly nothing for tuition, do well on the usmle, and get picked up by a good residency program with hardly any loans. It is worth considering.

I am stil waiting to hear from Wayne State, but I think they have to let us know by Oct. 1 -- so the waiting will be over for this part soon.
Any one else apply to Wayne?
I applied to Wayne, but not EDP. My interview is Monday. I've heard the EDP acceptance rate is very high.
Good luck at your interview. I had mine last Monday, and it was very informal. I actually enjoyed the conversation, which is pretty much what the interview consisted of.
I was told the same about the EDP acceptance rate, but still I fear overconfidence setting in and would like to have that acceptance in hand!

makes you wish there was a smiley that shook its finger at you!All of us edp will be getting news within the next week and half so I'll keep you informed.. Right now is analgous to the week or so before mcat scores became available.. I'm pretty anxious and would like to have that acceptance letter in my hand.. Success rates for edp are often higher, as schools know you will attend their institution.
Woooooo Hooooooooo!!!!!!!
I am in! I actually heard last week but thought I'd let all you people know since some people are wondering. I'm a FL resident and am sick to death of Gainesville (small town), but can't really stand Miami (traffic, no English, etc.), so I really wanted to go to USF in Tampa, and that's where I'm goin'! I LOVED doing EDP. Forced me to get my AMCAS done early (which was verified in 3 days, I might add, don't know if EDP had anything to do with that), only had to do ONE SECONDARY, and only ONE INTERVIEW!!! I saved so much time and worry and am so happy with my decision. My stats are decent and so are my EC's, but even if I got into a top ten school, I'd still rather go to USF. It's a thousand times cheaper, it's in FL, and the med school is really wonderful although not extremely well-known. If any of you all are considering EDP, I would think hard about the decision. Look in the MSAR and check to make sure that an EDP you're interested in is capable of taking more than a few people. USF can take up to 29 and so I figured I had a good shot. Anyway, just thought I'd share. If anyone has any other specific questions, shoot. I have nothing else to do now! HA!!!!!

Nope, EDP applicants have to hear from schools NO LATER THAN Oct. 1. That means med schools can accept/reject an EDP applicant whenever they want - just as long as it's before the first of October. In fact, I copied and pasted from the AAMC website the following info...
"If these guidelines are met, applicants will be notified of the school's admission decision by October 1. If not accepted under the Early Decision Program, applicants will automatically be placed in the regular applicant pool by the school and may then apply to additional schools."
Hope that clears things up!

I too applied EDP to my state school (University of Kansas). After having already paid for pharmacy school, the thought of paying out of state tuition for medical school anywhere else made me nauses. Anyway, we had our interviews last Friday and should find out our fate this week via e-mail.😕
Hey Pharmer- were you in the second or first interview group? Also, I think they said that they would notify us via regular mail, as the dean wants to sign each acceptance letter (if we get one).
Good luck! I know the wait is killing me...!

Congrats!
Many of the early AMCAS apps were verified in 3 days, in case anyone was wondering. Later ones took a number of weeks, according to complaints on this forum...

Kirk,
I was in the afternoon group. I just got off the phone with Peggy in the office of admissions b/c I needed to give her my updated mailing address and she confirmed what you thought. She also said that the dean would be gone until Thurs. so that letters would not get signed and sent out until then...which means we probably will not here anything until next week.
I applied Early Decision, had my interviews a week ago, and was told we would hear today or tomorrow. The admissions committee was supposed to meet today. Oh, my stomach! Did I make a mistake by putting all of my eggs in one basket? Where will I apply if I don't get in? Why haven't they called me? Tune in later for the continuing saga of... application angst! I'm finding it hard to focus on my work right now!!!!
Well EDP worked out good for me. I just got accepted today EDP from Creighton University!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The whole interview process at Creighton U was so amazing... the faculty interview was so unstressful and they made me feel so welcome. The student interview was just as good. All the horror stories about interview experiences just simply aren't true at Creighton... seems like a really good school and I'm SO AMAZED that I'm in.. WOW!!

Bumping this up for a friend of mine who just got in EDP to UNC. I'm so happy he's going to stay a Tar Heel...hope I stay a Tar Heel. But I wouldn't mind being an ECU Pirate, either. However, I must wait.
Anyhow, big congrats for my friend, even if he isn't an SDNer. 😀

Congrats Kirk. I'm glad I did EDP because now I can relax and concentrate on my research. Maybe I can actually enjoy this year although I do have MD/PhD interview coming up soon but I'm not too worried. Maybe I should start worrying about Step 1, hehe
I feel "empty" without all these worries. It been years since I didn't have some life altering educational worry.
