I've written progesterone inhibits release of prolactin from the pituitary.
estrogen increases synthesis but blocks its receptors in the periphery.
why are prolactin levels so high in pregnancy (pg 580 fa), if release is inhibited? estrogen increases prolactin secretion. but why does this supersede the progesterone inhibition of secretion?
