Anyone here have any advice for a resident who is teaching medical students history and physical examination techniques? What do you consider effective, or ineffective, teaching methods?

Depends on their year of training. I tried to teach them how to think like an H&P, which is largely about the CC and HPI, formulating a ddx from the CC, then the basic structure all keeping in mind the organization of pertinent (+)'s and (-)'s in relation to the ddx. If they can learn THAT, then every rotation just becomes about learning the ddx and appropriate hx/findings for that specialty. But too many med students just haven't put those pieces together yet.
