I know this might be a stupid/immature question but I'm gonna ask anyways.

Does smoking weed/smoking cigarettes/drinking alcohol on regular occasions leave an effect on your schooling personally? Or are you able to do all of that and still manage to get good grades?

I smoke weed almost every week and drink a few times a month, but I still manage to pass my classes(not the best grades, but they're satisfying).

And im asking this question on the pre-physical therapy because that's the field im interested in

I know some students who do any of the above activities, and they are not doing badly in school because they do it only occasionally and not excessively. However, smoking weed or drinking alcohol every week isn't a smart and logical thing to do when you need to study (which is a lot). If you get excessive, these activities will affect how you do in school. If you're barely getting by with your classes now, you will have a tough time following this lifestyle with the rigors and demands of PT school. Not to mention all of the negative effects on your health.

I gotta admit that this one made me 😆. I am laughing because you just came right out and kept it all the way real! No mincing words or tip-toeing around the issues, and I can respect that on a certain level. That said, I am going to tell you that using any illicit drug and getting caught would be a great disservice to you and your career. Many DPT schools require drug testing before matriculation. It is also a very a real possibility that you may be asked to be drug tested for various clinical clerkships during your DPT program.

I cannot speak to how it will or will not personally affect your grades/clinical education during the course of your academic career. My advice would be seriously consider stop smoking. Finally, I would also lose the "just getting by" mentality. If you are just getting by now, there's a decent chance that you won't get by in a competitive DPT program with a rigorous curriculum, research responsibilities, and clinical rotations.

Lol, one of the best threads. But as the others said, smoking weed weekly may be detrimental to your performance in PT school, esp since PT programs require drug tests before entering the program/matriculating, clinicals, etc. the demands of pt school aren't the same and undergraduate school, so maybe cut back on the smoking weed weekly to maybe monthly? or every 10 years? lol

Hey Ajimerced,
I'm quite impressed with your honesty. I believe you are aware of the harmful effects of smoking/drinking. May be now you are able to manage with your studies but later on it will definitely hamper your studies. I searched on net for this. I'm sending you the following sites.

Hope it's going to help you in clarifying you concerns.

Wow, I'm more impressed that you guys took this question seriously and didn't just laugh at me. And thanks for the real answers. I will consider it soon. I know I'm not going to be doing these social activities forever, that's for sure. I'm 19 and still young, just wanna acting that age for now and live life which probably explains why I'm smoking/drinking haha.

How about you guys, how many of you guys smoke weed/cigarettes/drink or have? Just wondering
