I posted recently about my chances at general surgery. Today I found out my step 2 scores and I did much better than expected (in the high 90s percentage wise). How will this effect my chances given my step 1 score is a 213 and i have middle of the road if not slightly above average grades and pretty good letters of rec? Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hey I can imagine that it will only help you. Its not like you were in bad shape to begin with!

You'll be a great candidate! Don't sell yourself short. Don't focus on the USMLE as much, as none of my interviewers seemed to care what I had. They wanted to know about you and what unique qualities you can bring to their program.

I just asked my home program director that same question - he said that they will consider the improvement in score, and it can help them "forget" lower scores. Really, Step 2 can only help - unless you REALLY drop your score.

And yes, once the you get the interview, they assume you're on the same playing field. So bring on the invites!
