Einstein vs Case Western vs UMN MSTPs

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am not deciding between any of these schools myself. But I am finishing my undergrad at UMN and truly enjoy it here. The cities are great. Personally I think the Winters are not as bad as they seem. Yes it gets cold but not terribly cold, the spring and fall are absolutely amazing and the summers are pretty great as well. I don't have much to say about the program since I am not involved, but if you have any questions about the cities feel free to pm me

I would go with Einstein. They have very strong MSTP program and it seems like pros/cons were favoring Einstein.

If i remember correctly from interviews, Case lectures aren't required and most students just find them supplemental to the PBL stuff they all seem to love

I would go to a place that currently has faculty in a field you're interested in. Previous success in that field doesn't help you if those people are no longer there. In addition, I would go to a place that can match you into a residency you want (if you are undecided, a place with generally good matches in everything) in a place you want.

And as far as weather goes, Cleveland and NYC have similar winters, both warmer than MN

sounds like
research: Minnesota > Case > Einstein
living: Einstein > Minnesota = Case

You'll be living there for 7-9 years likely. Therefore, this should factor greatly into the decision. Research interests may change, but you cannot change where you commit once you start school.
However, all three are great places to train. At the end of the day, it's your personal preference that matters. :luck:

I don't know. Case Western is really the most prestigious of these schools. If I was looking to go back to CA and have my choice of residencies, I'd probably go with the one with the most history. It also sounds like they've got good Immunology?

And really, $35K in NYC versus $29.5K in Cleveland probably swings in Case's favor when you consider cost-of-living.

UMN is really good for immunology, tho, if you are really into the science. Tough choice
