Hi everyone, I am hoping for some help deciding between Pitt and Einstein. I am also on the waitlist for Hopkins and UPenn which makes things a little more complicated, but please give any and all opinions.

Pitt
Pros
  • Top tier clinical training and name recognition
  • Strong in EM (preferred specialty)
  • Love their cirriculum (flex weeks are so cool)
  • Already have connections and experience in Pitt and at UPMC, I went to undergrad close by

Cons
  • Very little scholarship (10k per year)
  • Kind of looking for a change of scenery? Pitt is a very mid city

Einstein
Pros
  • Close to NYC - i have some friends who live in the city and i think i could reasonably hangout with them and sleep at their places on the weekend so i could spend time in Manhattan
  • Free!
  • Seems like Einstein is really on the up lately, might be gaining prestige
  • Strong enough EM exposure

Cons
  • Not as prestigious as Pitt
  • I've heard mixed reviews of administration and curriculum, especially for M3 M4

If anyone is a student at Einstein, can I please DM you?

What will your anticipated debt be (and how much with private loans) for each option?
Thanks for your comment. I have about 30k debt from undergrad. Einstein has said full CoA is about 35 per year which would leave me with ~170 debt total - no private loans only Stafford / federal unsubsidized. Pitt is about 55 tuition after scholarship + 30 per year living which would mean 370 debt total with 140 being private loans.

Well, any option that helps you avoid private loans is a better choice.

If Pitt would require private loans, then the answer is clear. Go to Einstein

Echoing what everyone else said, the more I read about private loans the more terrible they seem. Einstein is such a great school and you should RUN with the no private loan option. Congrats!

Edit: And change your username. You're one of the few who made it out of this year without private loans haha VERY successful applicant!
