I chose D, but the correct answer is A.

I understand that A is more stable than D since the isopropyl group is in the equatorial position, but the ring shown above the answer choices shows the two groups in cis configuration coming out of the page. Answer A, the correct answer, looks to me as if it would have the methyl and isopropyl groups going into the page when oriented as shown above the answer choices 😕. Therefore, I chose D as it is the only possible conformation that is oriented as shown.

Can someone tell me why I am wrong? Thanks!
 
Maybe scan a pic of the picture and I can take a look. I believe many don't have access to the book =(.
