Hey guys I'm starting to get ready for the MCAT. I have heard mixed things about the Examkrackers series and I am wondering if it is worth it to by the MCAT study package or if there is any other series out there you prefer? What are your guys thoughts on the Examkrackers? Loved it? Hated it? Other options? Opinions please! 🙂 thanks

LOVED IT. Well, not quite, who wants to study for MCAT? But if you do, i guess you have to, EK or Berkeley Review should be the ONLY source you need (even better, buy some exams from the MCAT website). I use EK myself, has all the information you need for MCAT. I also heard great stuff about Berkeley Review. That being said, stay away from Kaplan. Their model tests are easier, and the review material is comparable to a textbook with excessive information.

I'm starting the EK 10 week program this Sunday. It really depends on what type of student you are. From what I've been told, EK is sufficient for the typical student looking to score between a 20 and 30. If you're a typical student looking to score above a 30, then you will have to seek alternative prep methods such as TBR. An advanced student (one with a better recollection of pre-req classe material), may be able to score above a 30 with EK.

I took a practice MCAT without any prep and scored fairly well on it so I decided that I would simply do EK because I feel like it is the most enjoyable prep method with the best results.

Good luck.

Well I'm studying with EK right now and it's going pretty well. I haven't done another test after my baseline so I don't know, but I like that after each lesson there is a lecture quiz that tells you your predicted score.

Again, I have nothing to compare it to, but if they are really teaching me everything that will be on the MCAT (like they claim to), then I'm happy with it.

Edit: We three posted at the same time, but they both brought up TBR. After researching it, I've concluded that TBR is probably THE BEST MCAT prep there is. It requires a lot of motivation and work (somewhat significant work to acquire as well!), but if you complete it and understand it, you will be golden. Also, you'll need a lot of time to go through TBR. So if you're planning on taking it in June or July, you might not have enough time depending on what your study plans are.

If you were anywhere near an above-average student and you're going for pod school, EK will absolutely prepare you for the MCAT. It is the only prep material I used and even though GPA-wise I was below average, I still ended up with a relatively high score.

Thanks for the input everyone! Sounds like the general consensus is that EK is a great study tool 🙂 haha I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't going to be wasting my money before I order them

I bought several different books for MCAT prep (I have a habit of buying way to many informational books....I've got about 15 guitar books on my shelf, and only consistently use 3 of 'em) and after the first week, never looked at anything but EK and got a 31.

I never looked at classnotes, never looked at Kaplan ever again (seriously, worst book purchase I've ever made), only EK and practice exams on the MCAT website.

My advice is to consistently test yourself, not just after you've studied, but before hand and during also. You'll find you get a better idea as to how you should study after a few practice exams, and get a feel for the sorts of things that they try to use to trip you up. I loved EK for the way they specifically made a point of referencing tricky MCAT questions, and found several of the exact types of tricks on the real exam.

Good luck!

And don't be disheartened by poor performance on the practice exams (I don't mean stop studying cause you're fine, I just mean they often aren't the best predictors for how you'll do in the real scenario, at least for the EK practice exams anyway....I consistently scored about 5-6 points lower on the practice exams than I did on the real deal).
