for those of you who have taken the exam, how in depth were the questions regarding these(ekg/heartblocks).did you have to really interpret the ekg or could you pull the answer from the question stem??
also as an after thought any one hear about any actual eeg's??
thanks 😀

i also meant to ask about questions on step one regarding figuring out the AXIS (MEA'S)etc

Any help will be realllllllly appreciated
thanks 😍

I just had an MCAT question requiring me to interpret EKG data. It was from the real thing. You guys better be prepared for it!

Hi there,
You have to know the ECG within the context of how it relates to a Wigger's diagram. You are not going to be asked to interpret an ECG within the context of obtaining a diagnosis. This will come with USMLE Step II and III. Even then, the questions are quite obvious.

Agreed. I had neither ECGs nor EEGs on my exam though other people have seen them in the past. I think FA does a good job covering everything you need to know for ECGs and as far as EEGs go I doubt you'd be required to answer any question with EEG data alone.

..........and you are already on the step 1 forum??

EKG's in the context of antiarrythmics, pathologic diagnoses and basic treatments (PSVT, A-Fib, VTach) should be expected. Physiologic concepts such as ion gradients, resting potentials and ddrugs of choice should be expected. Outside of that, I wouldnt worry about too much.

With that said, my test was very light on the EKG. Nothing too difficult. And absolutely no EEG (although my answer would have been 'delta wave' whatever the question was)
