Hi,

I was wondering, do 2 week elective rotations such as urology, orthopedics, anesthesiology, etc. have shelf exams as well? Thanks.

To my knowledge, no. Only rotations that have NBME shelfs (or is it shelves?😛) are the required med school clerkships, i.e., IM, peds, OB, psych, family, surgery, neuro. Depending on your school and/or department, elective rotations might have some sort of testing component built in to determine pass/fail status (or, they might not).

One of the things that makes 4th year so great...NO SHELF EXAMS!!*

*Caveat--unless you take one of the required clerkships listed above during 4th year.

Edit: If someone reads this and knows for a fact that I'm incorrect, please respond.
