hey!!
I'm Med student from pakistan and i have just started my 4th year. I'm interested in doing electives abroad in either UK or USA and i have a few questions.

1)i checked a few sites of med schools of uk and the application deadlines for electives were almost 12-6 months before the start of the course hence i'm confused as to what will be the appropriate time to apply during 4th year or my final year sine the application process itself will take 6-12 months.
2) any special criteria upon which international students are selected.

Thanks

Moving to Clinical Rotations.

I cannot speak for UK electives, but for US electives, the "when" to apply depends on your goals.

US electives are only open to final year students.

You will be required in most cases to have medical liability/malpractice insurance which is good in North America. Most US electives will not provide this for you.

You may be required to have health insurance which will be good in North America. Again, most US electives will not provide this for you.

Some electives require that you have taken and passed the USMLE Step 1; others do not.

You are not eligible for what are called "Core" rotations in the US; only final year electives.

Other rules may be program specific.

thankyou!!

Could you also tell me if I would need sponsorship from the faculty in all the programs in US or is it a requirement of only some?

Regards.
